jan 1, 1911 - Ernest RutherFord
Description:
In 1911, RutherFord's ran an experiment, he expected most of the alpha particles to travel through the thin foil or be slightly defective, but there was around 1 in every 8,000 that was deflected backwards to the source. RutherFord's hypothesis was that every atom has a solid core (the nucleus) which holds a large amount of mass in the atom and a positive charge. Rutherfords also said that there is a smaller, negatively charged electron(s) that orbit the solid core (the nucleus).
