aug 21, 1858 - Lincoln-Douglas Debates
Description:
The Lincoln–Douglas Debates of 1858 were a series of seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Senator Stephen Douglas. They were both vying to win the Senate seat of Illinois. And this gave Lincoln a taste for what he going to face in the presidential election of 1860.This showed sectionalism because the debates between these two men mostly centered around the issue of slavery thus dividing the citizens in Illinois.
