11h 10min, dec 26, 2019 y - Went Shopping for Adidas Shoes

Description:

On Thursday, I bought a pair of Adidas shoes at Urban Outfitters. Adidas is a Multinational Corporation founded and headquartered in Germany. Although the home base of Adidas is in Germany, the company has achieved a global influence for their athleisure wear. The primary factor of globalization that relates to this event is economy, another minor factor is culture. Adidas is one of the many companies that partake in globalization of production, taking advantage of national differences in the cost of production, particularly in third-world countries. Borderless finance takes place through production as in order to participate in offshore outsourcing, Adidas as a company must invest in workers from third-world countries and facilities such as factories and shipping outlets. It is one of many companies based in a “rich country” and consequently, poor countries that Adidas may invest in are not benefitting from the trade in a way that encourages economic growth for the country. To put it differently, workers in third-world countries toil for hours a day to receive a wage that some may consider inhumane, while the designers and company executives in Germany take the majority of the profit. Thus, this is an example of twenty-first-century imperialism. Culture is a factor to consider as Adidas engages in fast-fashion culture and through this engagement fuels consumerism.
