Was created during 1767 by Charles Townshend. It taxed paper, paint, glass, and tea. It was supposed to raise money for the military in America and for the salaries for the royal judges. This act was strictly enforced, and this was a signal to the colonists they had the right to tax them, which infuriated the colonists.
