oct 16, 1859 - John Brown’s Raid

Description:

John Brown's Raid was when abolitionist John Brown led a group of people on a raid into the a federal armory in attempt to create a slave revolt and destroy slavery. It was not successful and eh was captured and hanged. This was significant because it showed to what extent they were willing to go in order to gain freedom for slaves. This boosted sectionalism simply because of violence and tension it caused. The amount of anger that resulted from the North and South made it almost impossible for them to negociate or meet a compromise. This also caused for Southerners to attack Northeners causing mroe violence.
