Description:
Political Party that arose in the 19th century that created a lot of controversy over immigration, since they were opposed to it. The members of this party had to swear to keep immigrants out of the country, and if that wasn’t possible they would keep them segregated from normal society. This party was neutral to the slavery issue, but came to align with pro-slavery, which caused this party to decline because they were in the North. This was significant to sectionalism because the North and South during this time had different views on slavery and caused more conflict and disagreement.
