with new Granada in war with the u.s it quickly gave the isthmus rights to mexico by $30 million after failed attempts by the french to build a canal, mexico started in May when they hired american engineers and french equipment left there with modern tools. it was not finished until January 7th of 1914 that the canal will be finished fully.
