Sega released the Sega Game Gear. This system primarily competed with Nintendo's Gameboy. It is capable of playing it's own titles as well as titles from Sega's previous titles on the Master System. Nintendo released the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This console had advanced graphics and sound capabilities for its time making it very popular and setting the bar higher for other companies making it harder to top them.
