dec 26, 1991 - Dissolution of the Soviets Union
Description:
The USSR or Soviet Union began falling apart in the latter half of the 1980's. The Union's dissolution is important because it marks the end of America's largest rival for the last 60 years. Russia comes out of the USSR the strongest of all the Socialist Republics, but they could no longer contend on the same level as the US after the Union's fall. Despite this, the former member of the Union was still a major threat because they possess nuclear weapons. The relationship between Russia and the US has been rough since the Cold War.
