Modern day consoles are a lot more advanced with much better technology capable of running games with amazing graphics and are even able to do ther things with them like watch TV, make calls on skype etc.
Where as the older systems were a lot worse but had significant advantages over each other as time went on. The PC Engine had an 8-bit CPU and 16-bit graphics chipset (like the Sega Master System). The Mega Drive had a 16/32-bit 68000 CPU and 16-bit VDP. The SNES had an 8/16-bit CPU and 16-bit PPU. The Neo Geo had a 16/32-bit 68000 CPU and 24-bit GPU. The 32X had a 32-bit SH-2 CPU and 32-bit VDP. And the Jaguar had a 16/32-bit 68000 CPU and 32/64-bit GPU.
