Also known as The Syndicate, this conglomerate of smaller corporations formed a political wing in the Republic, underlining their grievances with the state of the Republic and accusing it of inaction during the years that NanoTrasen held a tight monopoly on numerous, high profit markets within the Republic.
The Syndicate attempted time and time again to lobby the Republic to declare war upon the freshly formed and; in their opinions, weaker NanoTrasen. After failing countless votes The Syndicate acted itself, amassing a sizable mercenary army from the various planets that the corporations had influence over and starting a rather short-lived terror campaign on NanoTrasen sectors laying upon the border.
This only proved how ineffective the forces of Sol would have been against the NanoTrasen as their security forces cracked cell after cell within a matter of weeks. Furthermore the Republic, having uncovered the Syndicate's actions sought mass arrests for almost all of the companies involved, targeting anyone from middle management, all the way up to the board of directors. The Republic had feared that if they did not strike first they would have a repeat of NanoTrasen.
The Republic's fears however came to fruition rather quickly, as law enforcement shut down one company another one took its place from the Syndicate's sphere of influence and soon armed conflict was looming on the horizon. The Sol Republic seeking to avoid another humiliation with a potential loss of an armed conflict simply released the sectors that were heavily entrenched with Syndicate sympathy or outright loyalty.
The Syndicate was quick to enact their own idea of a government in the sectors, adopting the local sectors war-like and Latinistic culture as their own and declaring the foundation of The Grand Syndicatum. Though bogged down with internal cut-throat politics and outright infighting for power ensuring that they never would have a chance to grow as large as NanoTrasen, the Syndicatum still offered a sizable threat to both NanoTrasen and the Republic as external threat united the sectors with fire and blood.
