Description:

Description: A class of mobile phones and of multi-purpose mobile computing devices.

History: The development of the smartphone was enabled by several key technological advances. The exponential scaling and miniaturization of MOSFETs (MOS transistors) down to sub-micron levels during the 1990s–2000s (as predicted by Moore's law) made it possible to build portable smart devices such as smartphones, as well as enabling the transition from analog to faster digital wireless mobile networks (leading to Edholm's law).

Other important enabling factors include the lithium-ion battery, an indispensable energy source enabling long battery life, invented in the 1980s and commercialized in 1991, and the development of more mature software platforms that allowed mobile device ecosystems to develop independently of data providers.

Special Features: The common components found on all phones are:

•A number of metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) integrated circuit (IC) chips.
A battery (typically a lithium-ion battery), providing the power source for the phone functions.

•An input mechanism to allow the user to interact with the phone. The most common input mechanism is a keypad, but touch screens are also found in smartphones.
Basic mobile phone services to allow users to make calls and send text messages.

•All GSM phones use a SIM card to allow an account to be swapped among devices. Some CDMA devices also have a similar card called a R-UIM.

•Individual GSM, WCDMA, iDEN and some satellite phone devices are uniquely identified by an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.

Uses: With the growing speed of technological advancement, smartphones have become the essential components of our daily performance. As we look for convenience, we also respect the devices, which can combine multiple features like sending and receiving emails, text, photographs and multimedia messages, registering contacts, accessing the calendar and browsing the internet using the mobile browser.

As the whole world is going into the new phase of technological performance, our needs become more sophisticated. On the one hand, we need speed, quality, and effectiveness, on the other hand, these features should be combined in a solution small enough to carry it in the pocket.

Interaction/Exposure: Frequent subjection as an essential part of everyday living for a number of reasons--communication, documentation, entertainment. Owns one.
