dec 18, 1860 - Crittenden Compromise

Description:

An unsuccessful proposal to permanently enshrine slavery in the United States Constitution, and thereby make it unconstitutional for future congresses to end slavery. It was introduced by United States Senator John J. Crittenden (Constitutional Unionist of Kentucky). It aimed to resolve the secession crisis of 1860–1861 by addressing the fears and grievances of proponents of slavery, and by quashing anti-slavery activities.
