A typewriter operates by means of keys that strike a ribbon to transmit ink or carbon impressions onto paper. Typically, a single character is printed on each key press.

Exposure:
Since typewriters were used even in the 20th century, there are some group members who still possess them. These may have belonged to their grandparents or great grandparents. The students have also tried operating a typewriter themselves.
