Founded what would become known as Conservative Judaism. Developed a "positive-historical Judaism" that split from Orthodoxy in its "acceptance of scientific and historical research and in its willingness to make some liturgical changes." At the same time, it still sought to keep traditional customs and the national aspects of Judaism (which was fading from Reform Judaism).
