jan 1, 1492 - Christopher Columbus
Description:
To get the finances for his planned voyages, he convinced the Spanish king and queen that his voyages are meant to find a shorter route to Asia, because Spain wanted to have an efficient trade route with Asia. On August 3, 1492, Columbus and his crew set sail from Spain in three ships: the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. For months, Columbus sailed from island to island through the Carribean. In January 1493, he made a makeshift settlement on Hispaniola (present-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic), he left for Spain.
