King John I of England was defeated by King Philip II of France. This caused John to force his norman lords to give up their fiefs under Philip, increasing Philip's land and power. A little later in 1215 as a result of this battle, John's barons make him sign the Magna Carta, a document that greatly reduces John's land and power.Added to timeline:
