jun 6, 1989 - Khamenei appointed Supreme Leader
Khamenei's presence as the supreme leader is very different comapred to Khomeini's regime. He lacks Khomeini's charisma and clerical standing. This makes him less prevalent in the daily lives of Iranian citizens, but he is still present and still is capable of making changes, seeing that he still has the policial clout to resist political pushes from the presidents that have served under him.
