jan 21, 1793 - Execution of King Louis XVI
Description:
In late 1792, the guillotine became the official method of execution in France. The king asked that the blade be oblique in case it didn't cut through all necks. Ironically, executioners joked about testing this theory on the king's neck. Louis XVI was executed on charges of treason and conspiracy with foreign powers by Robespierre.
