Description:

The Bastille was a prison-fort in central Paris that was a staple of crown authority. After the nullification of the king's power and the rise of the national assembly, the assembly called for the creation of a "Bourgeois militia". This militia needed weapons, but had none. The best place to get them was the Bastille military prison. The people of France, men and women, rushed through the front gate and secured muskets, cannon, gunpowder, shot and anything else a militia could ever ask for.
