mar 8, 1863 - Peninsula Campaign

Description:

A campaign led by the Union against the Confederates in an attempt to capture Richmond, the Confederate's capital. George McClellan was a main Union General and he led the campaign. While he was a good general, he tended to not take any risks and stay back and make the army stronger. Robert E. Lee held them off though through the bloody seven day battles. The result of the campaign was a turning point from the Union's desire to preserve the Union to now abolish slavery. Union strategy turned towards total war. Robert E. Lee was a strategic general but he also took risks and this made him an important asset to the South.
