nov 4, 1979 - Iranian Hostage Crisis
Description:
Following the Iranian Revolution, after the US government had admitted the ousted Shah into the US for medical treatment, anti-US sentiment in Iran grew to the point where on November 4th, 1979, a group of Iranian students raided the U.S. embassy and began a diplomatic standoff between the US and Iran. The hostage crisis lasted for over 400 days; this led to the severing of diplomatic relations between the US and Iran and many punitive economic measures that led to the eventual decline of the Iranian economy
