jan 1, 1963 - White Revolution
Description:
The White Revolution was an aggressive modernization plan enforced by Muhammad Reza Shah. It decreased the wealth and influence of the clerics and landowners and began a period of rapid industrialization and Westernization. It also served as a catalyst for Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's rise to prominence, as he declared that he and other clerics had a duty to uphold Islamic principles in Iran.
