Description:
Frederick Douglass was born, a slave but later escaped to freedom. In 1847, he found The North Star, which was an anti-slavery newspaper, in Rochester, NY. He campaigned successfully against segregated schools in Rochester, and did many other things, advocating for black rights his whole life. His house was part of the Underground Railroad.
