jan 1, 1990 - 1990 Austin v Michigan Chamber of Commerce
Description:
The Supreme Court ruled that prohibitions on corporations from using treasury money to make independent expenditures to support or oppose candidates in state elections was constitutional.
This ruling re-enforced the existing federal ban on corporate political expenditure. It would not be overturned until 2010 with Citizens United v FEC, which found that such prohibitons were in fact unconstiutitonal.
