jan 28, 1649 - Charles I's Execution
Description:
In 1649, Charles I was sentenced to death for trying to use his tyrannical power to rule, and he was beheaded on January 30, 1649. Prior to his beheading he declared himself a "martyr of the people," and said he would have an "incorruptible crown" in Heaven. He then put his head on the block, gave a signal, and was beheaded in one chop. This was a large moment during the Age of Absolutism.
