aug 18, 1572 - Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre

Description:

The Saint Bartholomew's Day Massacre was when French troops under Catherine de Medici murdered many Huguenot nobles and military leaders on the wedding day of Henry of Navarre and Marie de Medici. The violence sent a ripple effect through the country as the word spread throughout the countryside, which led to more violence between Catholics and Huguenots. There were an estimated 70,000 Huguenots killed in France as a result of the massacres.
