jan 1, 1922 - Teapot Dome scandal

Description:

A congressional investigation was launched in April 1922 into the leasing of oil production rights in areas of Wyoming and California by Secretary of the Interior, Albert Fall. It was eventually discovered that Fall had accepted some half a million dollars in bribes (roughly $7 million in today's money) from two oil tycoons.

This was the largest scandal in US history until Watergate, and Albert Fall was the first US cabinet official to be sent to prison.
