The Combat Exclusion Policy, passed in 1994, banned women from certain roles in the military, particuralry combat roles. The policy was repealed by Leon Panetta, the Secretary of Defense. Women have been fighting on the frontlines for years, but due to this repeal, even more positions opened up to woman that were they were previously excluded from.
