jun 7, 1494 - Treaty of Tordesillas signed
Description:
The Treaty of Tordesillas was an agreement, made by the Pope, to stop Spain and Portugal, two Catholic countries, from fighting over control of the Americas. The agreement created the Line of Demarcation, an imaginary line through South America, and claimed that any territory west of the line would belong to Spain, and any east would belong to Portugal. This treaty led to Ferdinand Magellan circumnavigating the globe just to disprove it.
