jun 7, 1494 - The Line of Demarcation Divides the Globe
Description:
The Line of Demarcation was created by the Pope to avoid a Catholic war. It stated that the Spanish got the west side of the world, and the Portuguese got the east (and Brazil). This led to Ferdinand Magellan's voyage west to reach the Americas without sailing east. Since the Earth is round, there is no defined west and east. The Pope eventually drew another imaginary line dividing the globe.
