nov 6, 1860 - Lincoln elected
Description:
Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United States and him being elected marked the first time a Republican had been in office. Even though Lincoln only had 40% of the votes, there were 3 other candidates split the other 60% which is why Lincoln still won. Unfortunately, Lincoln being elected was part of the reason many Southern states seceded.
