Although it is unclear the exact month Henry the Navigator paid for his first voyage, we do know that in 1418 Henry set sail. Henry was a wealthy christian person from Portugal who paid for some of the first voyages for Portugal. Henry the Navigator is significant because the sailors who wanted to begin these massive voyages did not have enough money to pay for them, but with Henry they were able to sail places eventually making Portugal extremely wealthy.
