7h 17min, sep 28, 1918 y - Jack murders Polly

Description:

Once Polly gets of the train in Saskatoon she and John head off to Rosethern. John reaches for the bottle of whiskey under the seat while Polly admires the endless fields, the wildflowers in the ditches, and even the duck-filled sloughs. During the trip Jack kills a brown rabbit, and an innocent goose with a shot gun. He then keeps the gun out, and changes his route from Rosethern to Blaine Lake. All of a sudden John points the gun at Polly.
"At the loud explosion, the good, generous heart of Polly Wilson stopped beating. The boy child inside her struggle. It took a little longer for his heart to stop."
He left her body under a culvert on the side of the road.

This is a very significant part of Part One because a very major character gets murdered by her own husband. It shows the extremes John has went to.
