jan 1, 1916 - John's Letters Home End
Description:
"His letters had stopped, and no one in his family had heard from him since the beginning of the war. Polly feared greatly for her husband's health" (28).
The sudden cease of letters from John is started to worry Polly. She feels as if she doesn't even know John anymore. She wants to know how his life is going over there, but has barely any contact with him anymore.
She assumes he is just sick or busy with work and can't make time to send her any letters.
Polly still believes that their marriage is strong - she doesn't even think about the possibility that he may be having an affair and forgetting about her.
This is the start of John's resentment towards Polly and his Scotland family. He starts disconnecting from them, to the point where he completely forgets to think about them.
