aug 7, 1914 - RNWMP Officer John Wilson
Description:
"The Royal North West Mounted Police were looking for recruits... He went straight to their Prince Albert detachment to inquire about enlisting... In August 1914, the month Wilson joined..." (20).
In his efforts to join the war, John was rejected because of his weak lungs.
So, instead, he joined the RNWMP (the RCMP of the times).
They were desperate for recruits, since everyone was leaving to become a soldier overseas.
John's work hours were difficult - he was expected to be on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The hard workload and terrible wage did not matter to John. He grew fond of his work and thought of it as a new beginning. He soon began to excel as an officer of the law.
John was very proud of his work as an RNWMP officer. With the uniform and the title, John felt as if he was entitled to everything. His head grew bigger and he felt as if nothing could touch him.
