nov 25, 1835 - The Grass Fight

Description:

During the siege of Bexar on November 25, 1835, the Texans were surrounding the city of Bexar. Erasmus Deaf Smith came and told the Texans that there were animals with reinforcements heading for the city of Bexar. The Texans wanted to stop the reinforcements from arriving and thought that the animals might be carrying silver. They sent about 140 men to stop the reinforcements from arriving. There were about 40 cavalry under the command of James Bowie and about 100 infantry lead by William H. Jack. The two had a small skirmish. The Texans forced the Mexican troops to surrender. When they opened the packs carried by the animals instead of silver they found grass to feed the animals. The small skirmish resulted in 4 Texans wounded, 3 Mexicans dead, and 14 wounded.
