jan 25, 1647 - The New Name of New Amsterdam - 1647
Description:
In 1647, the Dutch West Indian company decided that Peter Stuyvesant would be the new colony governor. He was a strict man, he wasn’t very reasonable. People would call him “Old Silvernails” because of that. The first thing that he did when he arrived was change Manhattan’s name to New Amsterdam, after the Netherlands.
