jan 6, 1944 - Invasion of Normandy.

Description:

Already after the fall of France and the withdrawal of the British army in Dunkirk in the summer of 1940, the British began to plan their return to the mainland, although in practice they did not have the resources and manpower needed for such a large and complicated operation, as Britain was alone in the campaign against Nazi Germany in Europe.
When the United States entered the war in December 1941, the Western Allies agreed on the "Germany First" strategy, that is, their main purpose of the war was to unconditionally subdue Germany and overthrow the Nazi regime. So it was clear that they would have to invade Europe. The Americans, led by Chief of Staff, General George Marshall, pressed for an early invasion of Europe in late 1942 (Operation Sledgehammer) or in mid-1943 (Operation Roundup). A second in the West, to relieve the great pressure of the Red Army, had to deal with most of the German army since the invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941.
