The peoples wanting to move west from the United States had learned about the battle of the Alamo and decided that the Texas Republic was not the place for them, the settlers also heard about the legends in the California valleys, they also heard that California had already had American influence in the past, and they thought that continuing the influence, however, the US had denied them the right to settle there under the American flag so they decided that once they had enough influence in the region that they would ally with the Native Americans in the area to overthrow the Mexican forces in the area.
