Much like Frederick the great, Catherin was an enlightened ruler who helped spread the ideas of the thinkers of her time. Much of what she did was to continue the trend of previous russian rulers, that being westernization. She strove to make russia compete with the western powers like poland and the german states, and in this she succeeded, gaining russia a large amount of territory and even helping boost the economy far beyond any place it had been years before. She was a bastion of change for the russian people and helped boost Russia to become a major world power.
