Description:
Both England and the Netherlands begin to produce new ships known as the East Indiamen. These ships are able to hold more cargo and are more suitable for longer voyages. This shows a change in the relationship between the economies of Britain and the Dutch. Their respective overseas economies became competitors around this time so their governments adopted by ordering the construction of vessels that could tip the balance in their nations favor. This showed a change when the English through the course of the 18th century would be able to surpass the Dutch as the leading commercial nation in Europe and throughout the world.
