dec 1, 1834 - Ohio and Pennsylvania build canals (continuity)
Description:
Canals fostered small-scale industries to manufacture parts of the canal, boosting the economy. In addition, due to the faster transportation service on water than by land, Ohio and Pennsylvania decided to build canal systems, expediting the exchange of goods between the states. It is a continuity because they were inspired by New York's Erie Canal, ushering in the age of canals.
