jan 1, 1900 - Ultraviolet catastrophe
Description:
Max planck tried to explain an experiment where the laws of physics made them think that if they heated up a box that no light could escape out of (called a black box) it would create a infinite amount of radiation but it didnt so he tried a mathematical trick. He presumed that the light wasn't really a continuous wave as everyone assumed, but perhaps could exist with only specific amounts, or "quanta," of energy.
