sep 18, 1850 - Fugitive Slave Act Passed
Description:
When the Fugitive Slave Act was passed, it was met with anger from the North. Stating that those assisting in the hiding and transportation of escaped slaves would be fined, it contradicted many individuals, perhaps none more so than members of the Underground Railroad. Since the Act made their actions illegal, it was only natural for these members of the Northern cause to fight to repeal it, creating even more conflict and disunity in government.
