feb 2, 1848 - The Mexican-American War Ends
Description:
The end of the Mexican-American war was more instrumental in the cause of the Civil War than most give it credit for. While the U.S. came together when fighting the war, what came after proved to be quite awkward. All the land gained had to be labeled free or slave, in which each side had their own opinion. The issue was soon temporarily solved by the Missouri Compromise, but was still an initial cause of tension among the North and South.
