Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions in an attempt to create a compromise and prevent crisis between North and South. As part of this compromise, The Fugitive Slave Act was passed and slavery was abolished. This was significant to sectionalism because this prevented future territorial expansion and strengthened the Slave Act, which drew the Northerners and Southerners apart.
