nov 16, 1860 - Election of 1860

Description:

In the election of 1860, the democrats were divided. This caused the republicans to have an advantage and win. They elected Lincoln. He had less than 1% of popular vote in the south, but won every northern state. Southerners felt like the world was coming to an end. They knew with Lincoln as president, slavery would end. He had said the union must be all slavery, or non at all. Slavery was the South's way of living. They believed the Constitution gave them every right to slavery. To maintain their life style, they had to take action, and they did.
