jun 15, 1964 - Freedom Summer Begins

Description:

Freedom Summer was an initiative started by CORE and SNCC to increase black voter registration in Mississippi after the murder of three men, two white and one black, who openly supported the civil rights movement. This was obviously a huge cause for the whole event to happen. Throughout the summer, figures in civil rights groups fought for the justice of these three deaths by fighting for the right to vote. By giving African Americans the right to vote, it would show that their summer long fight against the KKK, brutal police forces, and those who did not support desegregation in general was all worth it. Freedom Summer's major effect is that is inspired the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 91964.
