jul 2, 1964 - Civil Rights Act of 1964

Description:

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation and banned employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, etc. Lyndon B. Johnson was the president who was able to get Congress to pass the Act, even though Kennedy was an advocate of the legislation. The Act got passed in both the House and Senate. This Act was primarily fueled by John F. Kennedy's support for equal rights as well as the March on Washington that raised support for the cause. As a result of this legislation, not only African-Americans but also other marginalized groups gained rights as well.
